YCN - Brief 1 / Presentation Boards

-
Final presentation boards for the YCN Uk Greetings brief. Overall I feel that alongside the initial illustrations and product range, the photographs have visually increased the aesthetics of the overall brief.

YCN - Final Product Photographs

-
DIY studio product shots of my Greetings brief. These have came out really well and as a range the printed media sit nicely against one another. I particularly like the close up shots as the blurred background creates a nice background for the illustrative product. Also this demonstrates a different approach to manipulating my illustrations as a repeat pattern can effectively change to impact in a certain context. Something to think about for future briefs.

Greetings Cards: Product Photographs (Sort of)

-
First product photographs of my Greetings card brief, and to be honest the impact of colours creates a strong visual relation across the entire project. As this project is pattern based I found that instead of spreading the products individually in a mundane, regimented order defeated the initial impact they created. Instead using the prints as the background created a much stronger visual, looking professional.

FMP - Final Crit Boards

-
Put together a set of boards outlining each of my major briefs in order to make sure people understand where my project is coming from and what it is I am actually doing.

FMP - Defined SOI

-
Defined SOI. As most of my projects have changed, I had to re-write the SOI in order for it work with what I am working on throughout each of my briefs.

FMP - Defined Briefs

-
Defined and edited briefs for the FMP. I needed to go through these and make sure they make sense, otherwise my project work won't relate to the aims and intentions of the brief.

YCN - Gift Wrap, Card / Re-Print

-
Applying the illustration print to a range of products, first step. To be honest I am pretty happy with how these are turning out especially now as I can visualise how the wrap would work once made into products. The repeated pattern works more effectively than using a solo image for the illustration and this is something I want to work on throughout the brief, towards submitting for the deadline.

YCN - Submission

-

YCN - Submission Boards

-
Final submission boards for the YCN Greetings card deadline. Due to lack of time management most of the images are still digital, which does not really do the project any justice. This is something I want to take time to finish off at a later date, in order to make the most of out the work I have produced.

YCN - Gift Wrap

-
Repeated patterns seem to be the norm for this kind of industry, especially with gift wrap. With the illustrations I have already produced, I have taken the 'head' and arranged it on the page to create a visual that has a strong impact. Once printed I will know how effectively these will work as pieces of design.

YCN - Robin Visual

-
Third character to the visual set. Although this is meant to be a Robin, again the colours don't match the real thing. To keep a consistency throughout I have had to keep them relatively similar otherwise there would be too much to work with and it would not create the intended impact.

YCN - Test Wrapping Paper

-
Designed and further developed a range for the Greetings Card brief, working on wrapping paper. Although most designs are based around repeated patterns, I have decided to experiment with possible directions in which to utilise the full character as part of the design. Changing the colour way to visualise alternative designs, although after creating these I don't think I will be using them.

YCN - Santa Visual

-
The main man of christmas. Santa himself, in a complimentary form to other illustration I have been working on. Although traditionally he is meant to be red, because of coca-cola. I have changed the primary colour of his form to match my other illustrations, as it just would not match if I kept well known colours in place for this set.

YCN - Snowman Visual

-
The second illustration for the set. Again with the first one I have kept a running theme throughout. Drawing up characterised christmas images that will eventually form a set. This one is a lot more simple in form and shape due the roundness of a snowman once it has been built.

YCN - Rabbit Card Variations

-

YCN - Rabbit Card Cover

-
Placed the illustration into photoshop and experimented with possible ideas on how the cards can be created. Mocking the visual up before print has allowed me to understand the possible layout direction I could take and how the card would look once finalised for print.

YCN - Snow Rabbit Visual

-
First of character of the set. As the direction has changed in the brief, I have now focussed directly on illustration. Creating digital pieces creates a means of application that can be placed across a range of different products and printed media. The first one below is based around a rabbit, using 3 colours with various tints allow more dynamics for depth to created.

Stuck in a rut.....

For some reason or other, recently I have began to lose confidence in most of my projects as I feel that most of the initial direction is not strong enough to take further. This is something, I need to focus on an improve in order to successfully complete my briefs to the best standard I can at this point in time.

The YCN Greetings card I have been working on, seems to have reached a dead end, as I feel that the orignal concept of using hand rendered type is lacking visually and does not meet the standards of professional work in my eyes. So I am beginning a new direction with this.

- Characterised Christmas Cards
- Set of 5-6
- Printed Range
- Packaging.

Keeping this simple enough to work with I now feel I can move on with this more effectively, and not worry too much about the outcome. The deadline is in 7 days from now, so this means I have under a week to get it all done. A week brief essentially.

YCN: Random Pattern

-
From developing my Hedonistic Illustration, I managed to create a digital camouflage pattern that could be used for my greetings card brief. As the context of directing the designs towards a male audience, this is something that could be placed within. Using a theme of manly activities and visual associations to relate the designs effectively towards the context.
