Came across the 75th anniversary edition of The Hobbit, and instantly realised how intricate and detailed the layout has been constructed. From looking over these images for a while you can begin to see how the hand drawn practice begins to relate directly to the content. Using a map as a focus of the landscape depicted within the book and also a watercolour of the road to Mordor. This is something I want to investigate throughout my own work, as there is a sense of information being designed for the purpose of the book and the readers.
